Entry form for the NJCA Junior Congress to be held at the St Mary's Catholic School, Benton Park Road, Longbenton, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE7 7PE on Saturday 28th January 2012 from 10am to 4pm.

  • Tournaments will be held in the U9, U11, U13, U15 and U18 age groups (the entrant’s age on 1st September 2011). All tournaments will be Swiss, with at least 5 rounds in each.

  • All players will be expected to play in all rounds, with the last round finishing at approximately 3.30pm.

  • The tournament is open to any player within the relevant age group. Every player scoring 50% or higher will win a prize.

  • The entry fee for all competitions is £5. However, if this is your child’s first competition after 1st September 2011 the fee will be £13.50. The amount includes £8.50 for English Chess Federation basic junior membership; this is an annual membership and last year’s expired on 30th August 2011.

  • All new junior members are required to complete and sign an ECF membership form. It also has to be signed by a parent or consenting adult. The form only has to be filled in once and is then sent to the ECF for membership and tournament grading purposes. It will only be used by them to send membership cards and relevant information.

  • Entry cheques should be made payable to NJCA. Group entries from clubs or schools are welcome along with photocopies. Entries may also be made by e-mail, by telephone or online via our website, (www.njca.org.uk), with payment to be made on the day. An entry form (paper or online) must be completed for every competitor. Emails and telephone entries are permissible if all the required information is provided: e.g. name, date of birth, emergency contact, and any necessary special requirements (such as allergies, medical issues etc). Due to health and safety restrictions in the host venues we may not be able to accept walk in entries on the day. Entries to Paul Bielby, 30 Denham Avenue, Sunderland, SR6 8HG or at the RGS; phone: 0191 5487600; email: paulbielby@btopenworld.com

  • If special arrangements are required during the tournament (such as religious observance) please ring us in confidence using the contact details above. We may not be able to accommodate your child if not told beforehand. A qualified first-aider will be on site during the event.

  • Soft drinks and confectionery will be on sale, but players are advised to bring a packed lunch.

  • Safeguarding children is of paramount importance and we take this responsibility very seriously. However, while we endeavour to create a safe environment we need your assistance in ensuring that we keep everyone safe. There is no formal supervision in between rounds and the NJCA asks that, if you attend to support your child, that you oversee the other participants. If you see anything that concerns you please contact the event organisers in confidence.

  • So that the first round can start at 10am promptly the organisers request that competitors arrive at least 15 minutes early, especially if you intend to pay on the day.

  • Thank you for your continuing assistance in helping the Executive Committee of NJCA to fulfil its aims to provide and promote chess opportunities for the children of our area and beyond.

  • The Northern Counties ‘Pennine Cup’ competition for County Under-16 teams of 12 will be taking place simultaneously with the RGS congress. Northumberland are current holders of the cup, but 4 other teams , Cumbria, Lancashire, North Yorkshire and Durham/Cleveland have expressed interest in playing this year.
