Due to health and safety concerns the NJCA has had no choice but to cancel the event. We apologise unreservedly for any inconvenience caused, and please be assured that we are in the process of finding an alternative venue for the same day. As a children's charity we strive to protect those in our care during a tournament and after due consideration it was unequivocally decided that a venue labelled as hazardous was not a fit and proper location to ensure maximum protection. Please watch the website for further developments. Those who have already entered for Aydon Castle will be contacted individually. Thank you for your continuing support and hope to see you at the alternative venue.

Kanwal Bhatia at the Chess Olympiad
The England Womens Team came 15th in the Chess Olympiad at Khanty Mansiysk. Former South Shields and Newcastle Central High School girl, Kanwal Bhatia was nominally board 4 for England, though in fact 7 of her 9 games were on board 3. She won 6 games, drew 1 and lost 2. This performance was good enough to win her the FIDE WFM title. Well done, Kanwal! She is in fact the second former NJCA member to win an international title this year, the other, of course, being IM Jonathan Hawkins, who leads the Leam Lane team in the Northumberland League"
